It was wonderful to meet again as the elders of Promontory Community Church following a couple of months off over the summer. It’s a great opportunity to spend time together praying for our church and members, talking through upcoming ministry plans, and continuing to explore the administrative inner workings of the church.
Our time began with a devotional from Eddy Mejlholm, as he recently re-read A.W. Tozer’s “The Pursuit of God.” He reflected on the church needing to be filled with people chasing after divine intimacy, not settling for a complacent spiritual life. It was a great word to hear as we started the meeting and a reminder of what we’re called to at Promontory Community Church.
We followed that up with a time of praying for the church community. September brings the start of the new ministry year and there are a lot of great things happening. But there are many who are hurting or struggling in the church and we bring them before the Father, praying that he would do a work in their lives, and his presence would be felt.
We then went through the financial report, the first since returning from summer. And we were blown away by the generosity of people who call Promontory home. So far this year donations have well outpaced our expenses and that led to discussion around establishing a capital reserve / contingency fund. After many years sitting through, and giving, financial updates in elder’s meetings, it was a blessing to be able to report good news.
Finally, as we continue in the newness that is Promontory Community Church, we continue to develop and improve the many policies that will govern us. Not the most exciting task, but certainly necessary.
As always, we ask that you continue praying for our church, praying for our pastors and staff, and praying for us as elders as we seek to bring the Gospel message to the Promontory hillside and our community.
