The Elders met this past month to pray for our church and for those among us who are going through struggles of various kinds. We began our time with a devotion from the word in Romans 7 which presents a profound reflection on human nature, sin, and the law. It teaches that while the law is holy and reveals sin, believers are freed from its condemnation through Christ. The chapter emphasizes the ongoing struggle with sin, the necessity of the Spirit’s power, and the hope of redemption, preparing us to embrace the transformative grace described later in Romans 8.
“Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.” Romans 7: 24-25
We then moved on to various church business and ministry updates and we are grateful for God’s provision and work among us in:
Youth – preparing for the first youth retreat.
Women – regular study and prayer times meeting in a new space.
Men – breakfast meetings sharpening one another.
Children – many children learning and growing in their faith.
Sunday – many new people attending and getting connected.
Finance – faithful giving and provision for continued ministry – we will soon be able to accept donations of securities like stocks, bonds, and mutual funds for those who want to donate this way.
Elders – we are grateful for the elder nominations and the discernment process that will begin soon.
We spent a fair bit of time at the end of our meeting working on Human Resources, Marriage, and Abuse policies which we intend to approve next month.
We scheduled our next meeting for November when we will begin the budgeting process for next year and ask that you pray for us as we consider what God is calling us to this next year.
