What We Believe

What We Believe

The Gospel

The good news of Jesus is the centre of what we believe as a church.  We can summarize this good news in four points:1

  1. God
    • God is the eternal, holy, and just uncreated creator of all things.  Eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, there is One God who upholds all of creation by his power.  (Ps 90:2, Is 50:6, Heb 1:1-3)
  2. Humanity
    • God has made us to reflect his image and eternally enjoy relationship with Him.  However, our sin has broken that relationship with God, twisted his image, and now we stand under his righteous judgment.  The Bible tells us the punishment for our sin is death, both physical and spiritual.  We are unable by our own efforts to pay for our sin or remove ourselves from it.  (Rom 3:20-23, Rom 6:23, Eph 2:1-3)
  3. Jesus Christ
    • But God sent Jesus to deal with our sin!  Jesus, the second person of the Trinity, came to this earth, born as child to Mary, in order to live a perfect life without sin.  He was put to death on a Roman cross and God placed on him the punishment for our sins.  Three days later he rose from the dead, having completely broken the power of sin and death.  He now sits enthroned in heaven having been given all authority. (Col 2:13-14, Is 53:3-12, Eph 1:20-21, 1 Cor 15:3-8)
  4. Our Response
    • We are called to respond to the sacrifice of Jesus in repentance and faith.  The amazing news is that this salvation of Jesus is held out to everyone who repents of their sins and trusts in Jesus.  Repentance is a confession of the problem of our sin and turning away from it. Faith is trusting in what Jesus has done on the cross as our only hope to be saved from the wrath of God.  We are saved by faith in Jesus Christ alone, not in anything that we can accomplish.  In that salvation, we then live in such a way that honours God, not to earn his favour, but as an outpouring of gratitude. (Rom 3:23-26, Rom 10:9-10, Gal 5:22-25)

This is the good news that we proclaim and hold as a church.  There is much more to say and we spend time every week reminding ourselves and diving deeper into it.  We believe that growing in the Christian life is not moving away from this message but learning to apply it into every area of life.

If you want to learn more about what it means to be a Christian, we would love to hear from you.  Contact a pastor or come and join us on Sunday, we would love to help you follow Jesus!

Scriptures

We believe that the Bible is God’s infallible and inerrant Word given to us for our instruction, correction, and growth in the faith. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:19-21) God’s Word forms the basis of all we practice, teach, and share as a church as we seek to be obedient to what God calls us to do and under the authority of His Word.
